Home Coffee Machine Buyers Guide
The first thing to do is to decide what type of coffee it is that you want? Are you an espresso fan who likes your espresso’s thick as molten lava or do you like your weak skinny cappuccinos. We suggest the following types of machines for the following preferences.
Filter Coffee and Americano —- Capsule or Filter Machine If you only like filter coffee then there is no need to go a fancy machine which does it all. A straight forward filter coffee machine or even
Espresso —- Capsule Machine Capsule Machines are ideal for espressos. They produce a beautiful thick crema espresso with tons of flavour. The flavour extraction from a high quality capsule machine is over better than most automatic machines and the preservation method used ensures that the body and aroma are not lost even if you store your capsule for a long time.
Cappuccino/Latte —- Capsule, Automatic Bean-2-Cup If you love your cappuccinos and lattes than a bean-to-cup machine is probably your best bet as they provide the simplest means of obtaining a milk-coffee drink. Avoid automatic machines with plastic milk containers built into them as these turn sour very quickly
All Coffees —- Not Filter If you love all the coffee types and don’t want to decide on just one, then choose any of the above mentioned coffee machines except for a filter coffee machine.
If you are located far from some major cities then choose a machine which is compatible with readily available coffee. A capsule coffee machine is great but if you can’t get the capsules because of your location then rather pick a bean machine or even a filter coffee machine.
The most expensive is not always necessarily the best. For example a R20,000 coffee machine does exactly the same as a R12000 coffee machine but it has a touch screen. If a touch screen is not something which is not important to you then go ahead and save yourself a lot of money. Choose something with features which are important to you.
Choose a coffee machine in your price range which does exactly what you need. Don’t just try to choose the fanciest and most expensive coffee machine out there.
As with everything Quality and Brand is hugely important. Rather go for a coffee machine specialist brand as opposed to choosing a general appliance manufacturer who makes washing machines, toasters AND coffee machines.
Choose a company also which has reputable service and that won’t leave you high and dry if you need some assistance.
