Make The Most Of Your Basement
The basement of many homes is neglected, left undecorated and kept unlivable. If you’re one of these people, or if you haven’t used your basement at all, then we suggest you give it another chance. There are so many, many things you can do with that neglected area underneath your main floor. You and your family can really benefit from a functional basement, and your home can as well, as that unused space can eventually be a source of added value.
You, your children and maybe even your grandchildren have gathered so many priceless treasures and possessions throughout the years, so why not think about these? You could make your basement go from barely livable to very useful in no time flat. The extra set of golf clubs or fishing rods, you know, just in case. Those boxes filled to the top with bric-a-bracs from the most recent rummage sale. The stuffed animals that your now teen-aged children don’t want to live without. You may want to finally devote some attention to your basement, and there isn’t any better reason than the S word itself – storage! Keep those priceless treasures organized by turning your basement into your family’s own mini-museum.
But there are more reasons aside from storage that could make your basement a functional place for the entire family, and that includes everybody. Do you need a place for everything about your favorite sporting team or favorite sport? If that’s the case, you may want to display all your sporting keepsakes in your basement. You can even display your sporting stuff next to exercise equipment to encourage you to get back into shape, or stay in shape if you already exercise!
Don’t be so hard on wifey for taking up the dining room table with a crocheting or sewing project – you can give her the basement to serve as her workshop. Finish off a room just for her.
If you customize your basement just for your wife’s hobby, she’s going to love you even more as her hubby. The dinner table could be “yours” again, while your wife can work in the basement any time she wishes.
Younger children can take advantage of the basement, or part of it, as a play area. It may be a play space in itself, a toy closet or both – your kids will enjoy this part of your home. That’s right – the kids can have their time for themselves while you have yours, doing whatever you have to do with little to no distraction yet making your kids happy thanks to their basement play space.
